45 Days Till $10K (January 24th-March 10th)
I’m a numbers person. I like what numbers represent. I like when I see repetition or balance. I like the logic and planning it takes to move numbers from a negative column to a positive one. The work it takes to move numbers is an art form. It takes thought, commitment, compromise and a plan.
So when I woke up today on my 45th birthday, it was not lost on me the number 45 had a significant impact on all of us. This past Friday, the 45th President was sworn into office.
Saturday, one out of every 100 Americans joined the Women’s March. I was one of the few that didn’t march. Not because I didn’t want to be there, rather I was flying from Brussels to Chicago. A flight that gains 7hrs on the return but I felt like I was set back a century.
Because on Friday, the day the 45th President was sworn into office he swiftly dismantled services without providing immediate alternate options to fulfill these services. It’s like the gas station shuts off their pumps one day and there is no alternative for your car to run. You go as far as you can until you can’t. That’s not a plan.
So today on my 45th birthday under this 45th President I want to propose a plan to you. I want to do something big. Meaningful. Something that a year from now will matter.
I’m asking each of you to commit to something big for the next 45 days. Where each day you make a conscious effort to move the numbers from the negative to the positive. It can be anything that moves you. Pay it forward, volunteer, speak up, listen...you will know what that is for you. Comment here to share your commitment.
For me, I’m focusing on the biggest year ever supporting the Ride For AIDS Chicago. This year is my 7th Ride and with the pending cuts in social services, I know this is where my focus needs to be. What is my focus exactly? Fundraising. Putting my money where my mouth is.
I’m matching your donations for the next 45 days on my fundraising page. http://bit.ly/shannon2017
Now your $20 becomes $40. Your $100 becomes $200. Your $500 becomes $1,000...you get the idea. All the way till your contributions reach $10,000.
We have 45 days. Let’s do this.
I'm committed... to be a catalyst for change in HIV/AIDS Community by raising vital funds for those living with or at risk for HIV while simultaneously fighting the shame and stigma associated with the disease.
