Riding for a Healthy Future.
Truth is I have absolutely no business committing to a 200 mile bike ride. LOL. But I will do so nonetheless.
Why not? It has been a few years since I have done the Ride for Life Chicago. My Mom died the weekend of the 2018 Ride. A pandemic messed with the world. And in 2021 I lost Fred - our team mascot - and a driving force in my life and desire to create change in the world. But “The Ride” had previously been an important part of my life, my friendships and my chosen family.
My mom raised her son to care about others and be mindful of the world around him. The past few years have seen me through some personal crises and ultimately personal growth. Fred taught me to believe in myself and that healing is possible. He gave me the courage to dream for a brighter future - and to dream BIG.
So this year I dedicate my effort to the memory of both my Mom and Fred. I ride because I can. And as someone living with HIV, and as someone who has this survived a pandemic, I want to celebrate and honor life.
I have benefitted in life from access to support and resources that have allowed me to persevere. Too many in our community lack those supports or resources. That’s where TPAN comes in.
TPAN cares for those in the community who might otherwise go without; who struggle getting services from agencies wedded to more traditional models of care; who might suffer were it not for the services TPAN provides
